Jaco Pastorius Quintet: Donna Lee (1981)

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a clip from Rick Suchow, but this is a great one to make up for lost time.

Here’s a live, rare, and unreleased clip of the Jaco Pastorius Quintet (with Michael Brecker, Peter Erskine, Bob Mintzer, and Don Alias) performing “Donna Lee” in 1981.

“40th anniversary! I personally recorded this gig, which became the genesis of Jaco’s ‘Word of Mouth’ band. At the time, he was still a member of Weather Report. Live at Seventh Avenue South, NYC.,” Rich shared.

Thanks for sharing this Rick and not trying to profit off it. There is nothing but awesomeness going on with this one.

One of my favorite musicians of all time, and definitely my favorite bass player. Many people have copied his style, but no one, and I mean no one, will ever be Jaco. If you don’t believe me, ask Pat Metheny. I’m blessed to find this recording, thank you to the person who shared this.!!

Jaco changed electric bass playing and music forever. Even though there were great bass players then and now there was nobody like him before of after he left us. There will never be another one like him! He’s the greatest of all time.
