Keep It Groovy: How To Play The Bass Line To “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg”

Hey folks! Welcome to the new “Keep It Groovy” bass lesson series. Here, you’ll find short lessons to help build your repertoire of grooves. Sometimes we’ll learn classic bass lines, other times we’ll discuss how to get creative when it comes to improvising or even writing parts on your own.

As we begin talking about groove, it’s only appropriate to throw it back to one of my first inspirations as a bass player, James Jamerson. I like to think that a little Motown makes every bass player’s day better, so hopefully, this video will do just that.

While some of Jamerson’s lines are intricate and very improvisational, this particular tune features him in the pocket with a perfectly crafted bass line. A must-know tune for anyone wanting to play in a wedding band, this lesson on “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg” should get your fingers moving in no time!
