Jukka Gustavson & Street Level, Featuring Jan-Olof Strandberg, Release “Natural High”
Sometimes you can’t let a good thing get away. That’s why after a few gigs together, the trio of Jukka Gustavson, Jan-Olof Strandberg, and Thomas Törnroos created the band Street Level and stuck together to make an album. Natural High is the group’s debut recording.
“Thomas Törnroos did suggest the name Street Level for the band since the first gig was in a small town in Finland called Porvoo and the club was at street level!” Strandberg tells us. “Actually Dominique Di Piazza performed as a special guest on one of the group’s very first gigs.”
The band blends jazz, blues, and funk with Gustavson laying down vocals and organ while Törnroos performs on drums. Strandberg utilized his Tobias Signature 5 for most of the tracks, breaking out a six-string Alembic Series II for some overdubs as well as a fretless Alembic and a Vektor upright bass.
