John Patitucci: Our Family & Growing

John Patitucci has always been one of my favorites. The stuff he does on 6-string bass is just incredible! I remember when I got my first 6 string, I couldn’t help but study JP’s approach to the instrument.

Here he is performing two of my favorite tunes from his debut album. If you haven’t seen the instructional videos from the ’90s, I highly recommend it. I also recommend the album Another World from 1993, the title track is a killer!

All with the two finger technique… amazing phrasing and musicality. And notice the big mid-range horns in the background sitting on what I’m guessing is a 15” each. I remember that combo sounding so good back in the day, I wonder why we’ve moved away from it.
