It’s been three years since John Frusciante rejoined the Red Hot Chili Peppers lineup, and now we’re on track to hear the fruits of the band’s labor since then. The funk-rock icons have announced a new album called Unlimited Love that will be released on April 1st. Produced by Rick Rubin, the album will mark their first new music with Frusciante in 16 years.

“Our only goal is to get lost in the music,” the band stated in a press release. “We (John, Anthony, Chad, and Flea) spent thousands of hours, collectively and individually, honing our craft and showing up for one another, to make the best album we could. Our antennae attuned to the divine cosmos, we were just so damn grateful for the opportunity to be in a room together, and, once again, try to get better. Days, weeks and months spent listening to each other, composing, jamming freely, and arranging the fruit of those jams with great care and purpose. The sounds, rhythms, vibrations, words and melodies had us enrapt.”

RHCP teased the new music earlier this week with a jam between bassist Flea and Frusciante but has now released the first single from Unlimited Love. “Black Summer” begins with Flea’s distinct melodic style in a mellow vibe before things build up for the chorus.

The Peppers are still slated for a world tour that will feature support from Thundercat, A$AP Rocky, Anderson .Paak & the Free Nationals, Haim, Beck, The Strokes, King Princess, and St. Vincent on select dates.
