Ibanez Introduces New SR Premium Bass Guitars
Ibanez has a lot cooking for this year, including three new SR Premium models. The limited-edition instruments help to mark the 35th anniversary of their flagship SR design.
The lineup starts with the SR4FMDX and SR5FMDX, which are four and five-string models, respectively. Each features a flamed maple top over a body made from ash, maple, and bubinga. Their necks are five-piece laminates of Panga Panga and purpleheart, all topped with a figured Birdseye maple fingerboard. Their pickups are Nordstrand Big Breaks matched to a three-band active EQ. Other features include green oval dot inlays, Ibanez’s premium fret edge treatment, and an Emerald Green Low Gloss finish.
The third bass is the SR5CMDX, which sets itself apart with a multi-piece top made from curly maple, walnut, purpleheart, and bubinga. Its body uses the same combination of woods as well as ash. Ibanez gives it a smokey Black Ice Low Gloss finish. It also has a five-piece Panga Panga and purpleheart neck, but the fingerboard is bound panga panga with abalone dot inlays. It retains the same preamp as the SR4FMDX and SR5FMDX while switching to Nordstrand Big Single pickups in Rosewood covers.
The Ibanez 2022 Limited Edition SR Premium Basses will be available with street prices ranging from $1,499 to $1,799.
