Fender Custom Shop Unveils 2022 Annual Collection and Prestige Collection Basses
The Fender Custom Shop has unveiled their Annual Collection for 2022, including two basses, as well as the launch of the Prestige Collection which has a one-of-a-kind masterbuilt bass.
The Annual Collection is described as brainstormed to showcase the latest innovations from the Custom Shop. Among the offerings are the Limited Edition Custom Jazz Bass Heavy Relic and the Limited Edition P Bass Special Journeyman Relic. The Jazz Bass features a two-piece ash body in a Heavy Relic lacquer finish. Its tinted quartersawn maple neck has a ‘60s Jazz Bass “U” profile and a 9.5” radius fingerboard. Electronics include hand-wound vintage pickups wired to knurled chrome master volume and tone controls. Fender offers it in Aged Natural, Aged Black and Faded Aged 3-Color Sunburst finishes.
Similarly, the Limited Edition P Bass Special Journeyman Relic has a two-piece alder body with a relic’ed lacquer finish. It’s got a P/J pickup configuration with a hand-wound ’75 Jazz Bass bridge pickup and hand-wound ’65-’70 Precision Bass neck pickup. Other features include a ‘60s Jazz Bass neck profile, pearl block inlays, and lollipop tuners.
The Prestige Collection showcases the work of master builder Vincent Van Trigt, who created the 1952 Peacock Precision Bass. The luthier says “historically peacocks are a symbol of transformation, restoration, and rejuvenation, which is what music is. It’s transformative, it takes people on a journey and rejuvenates their souls.”
The Peacock Precision has the artwork of Ian Ward with Josefina Campos hand-wound special design pickups with custom mounting rings. Its pickup ring with 2 ’51 pickups is wired in series while the reversed headstock is in tribute to Dusty Hill. Get more about the bass from Van Trigt himself:
The Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition Custom Jazz Bass Heavy Relic is available for $5,450 while the Limited Edition P Bass Special Journeyman Relic has a price of $5,250. Van Trigt’s masterpiece has a price of $22,500.
