Keep It Groovy: Adding Grace Notes To Your Funky Blues

In this episode of “Keep It Groovy,” we’re going to feature a funky bass line over a 12-bar blues progression. We’ll use the blues box pattern but add a few grace notes for maximum funk.

We’ll begin by playing along to a drum groove reminiscent of the Otis Redding and Carla Thomas track, “Tramp.” Thinking to ourselves, “what would Duck Dunn do?” we can create a bass line that integrates dead notes and grace notes to add a bit of hipness!
