LeCompte Basses Introduces BX Series Basses

LeCompte BX Series ACID-J Basses

Luthier Bud LeCompte has announced the “BX Series”, which includes a special set of specs to his ACID-J and REV models. He came up with the concept after pondering the “Fender-Bird” idea, which combines a T-Bird body and a Fender-style neck.

“Occasionally, you will see a P-bass with a T-Bird pickup or two,” he writes. “While I’m not sure I would go so far as calling this combination a Fender-bird, this particular combination began to speak to me. It got me wondering one day, ‘What if I took a Fender-style bass and incorporated more T-Bird elements than just the pickups?’ I personally had never seen a bass design enter this territory before. I couldn’t help myself so I sat down to see what I could come up with. After many hours, days and weeks, I settled on a design that brings together the aesthetics, functionality, playability and tonal aspects I had been thinking about.”

The BX Series specs include an alder body, three-piece quartersawn maple neck, and Pau ferro fingerboard. LeCompte will fit the line with Hipshot Ultralite tuners and the Hipshot Kick Ass bridge.

For electronics, he’ll be loading the BX Series with his own Double Down dual coil humbuckers with passive electronic in either Volume/Volume/Tone or Volume/Balance/Tone control layouts. LeCompte says all you have to decide is on the number of strings, the colors, and the pickguard shape.

The ACID-J BX and REV BX are being offered for a special player’s pricing of $2,022 for four-string versions and $2,222 for a five-string. There is a six- to seven-month build time.
