Remco Hendriks: Funky Fretless Cortex Bass Experiment

Remco Hendriks is back with another funky fretless bass experiment.

“Here are some fun grooves on my fretless Cortex bass with slides, double stops, ghost notes, lobster claw plucking and percussive triplets!” he shared.

For the gear heads, he added: “I’m using Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings, a Darkglass Hyper Luminal compressor, a Rodenberg 707b booster, slight envelope from a Beetronics Zzombee and a Walrus Audio D1 delay just at the end. This handmade fretless Cortex bass has a flamed maple fingerboard, chocolate maple neck, walnut body and a spalted maple top. It’s got a thin epoxy coating on the fingerboard, a compound radius for optimal action, Gotoh tuners and custom single string bridges. Pickup is a Nordstrand Dual Coil with 2 band Glockenklang preamp and a passive/active switch… I’m using an Eich T-1000 amp with 2x12s cabinet and recorded the DI signal from the amp into a Focusrite Scarlett connected to my laptop into Cubase. I made the drums with Addictive Drums and midi percussion pads, mastering was done with Ozone 9.”

Usual demo of bassist’s skills. All to the well and good I suppose… But I couldn’t much hear how that neat looking fretless could perform until one very tiny moment at the end of the video. -Not nearly enough time to form any kind of opinion on it. ~Typical silly demo nowadays…. ;>{(
