Five Finger Death Punch Releases “Afterlife”

Five Finger Death Punch: AfterlifeLas Vegas metal band Five Finger Death Punch has returned with its ninth studio album, entitled Afterlife. Recorded over the last two years, it marks the first release to feature lead guitarist Andy James, who joined after longtime member Jason Hook’s departure in 2020.

Bassist Chris Kael dishes out the rumbling low end, and he also wrote a song for the album. In an interview on “The Afternoon Program” from Milwaukee’s 102.9 The Hog, Kael explained how it came about.

“Over the break, when the pandemic was happening, I kind of lost my mind a little bit and channeled that energy of being alone at home — no touring, no nothing. I just got to work and started doing a whole bunch of writing, not really knowing what would end up with the songs that I was writing,” he said. “And at one point, I had been sharing them with [singer Ivan Moody], and Ivan asked me to send over another couple of instrumentals. So I sent over instrumentals of songs I had been working on, and he picked one of those songs, and it’s on the new record.”

Kael said his bandmates brought out the best of the song, describing it as old-school Corrosion of Conformity meets early Five Finger Death Punch.

Afterlife is available now on CD, vinyl, cassette, and as a digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
