When I watched this video by Tim Starace, I thought to myself that he’s making his music room double as a home gym. Here he is playing bass, keyboards, and pedals on “La Villa Strangiato.”
2. Playing For Change: I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For
I love it when Playing For Change drops a new video, and they did just that this morning. In this one, over 40 musicians from 13 countries got together virtually to record a beautiful version of U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.”
3. Remco Hendriks: Funky Fretless Cortex Bass Experiment
Remco Hendriks is back with another funky fretless bass experiment. In this new video, he works out his fretless Cortex bass with slides, double stops, ghost notes, lobster claw plucking, and percussive triplets.
4. Paul Thompson: Climbing “Ain’t No Mountain” with James Jamerson
I could watch videos by Paul Thompson (aka pdbass) all day. The way he breaks down music is remarkable. In this clip, Thompson breaks down versions of “Ain't No Mountain High Enough,” and the incredible work of James Jamerson.
5. Ellen Alaverdyan: Blackbird
Ellen Alaverdyan has a new video out, and this one once again features the bassist with her dad, Hovak Alaverdyan, on guitar (and Marine Sargsyan on stomp kick). Here’s the inspiring young musician performing bass and vocals on “Blackbird.”
6. Charles Berthoud: Neurotica (Solo Bass Arrangement)
Charles Berthoud took Polyphia’s new tune “Neurotica” and turned it into an epic solo bass arrangement. This guy continues to blow our minds with each video.
7. Herbie Hancock and an All-Star Band: Hang Up Your Hang Ups (Live)
The amount of talent on a single stage in this video is mind-blowing. This clip comes from the 2014 Global Concert in Osaka, Japan, with Herbie Hancock backed by a supergroup (including Marcus Miller) on a performance of “Hang Up Your Hang Ups.”
8. Weather Report: The Pursuit Of The Woman With The Feathered Hat (Live at Lisner – 1978)
We can always count on Rick Suchow to unearth some true gems. Here’s one he just shared of Weather Report (with Jaco Pastorius) performing “The Pursuit Of The Woman With The Feathered Hat” in 1978.

The latest Primus EP, “Conspiranoid,” featured just three tracks, but each one was a slam dunk for fans of the band. Les Claypool and the gang have just released a music video for “Follow The Fool.”
10. Richard Bona: Bilongo
Earlier this year, Richard Bona visited Alacran Studios in Miami Beach, FL, to record some tunes. Here’s a clip from the session, with Bona doing a fantastic solo bass and vocals version of Guillermo Rodriguez’s “Bilongo.”
