Stuart Clayton Publishes The Brothers Johnson Bass Book
Louis Johnson is one of the pioneers of slap bass whose work graced hit albums by Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Peabo Bryson, and more. However, many bassists know him for his work with his brother George in their group, the Brothers Johnson.
Stuart Clayton of Bassline Publishing has just released a new transcription book featuring 14 lines from the group. The track list includes the band’s biggest hits like “Stomp,” “Strawberry Letter 23,” “Ain’t We Funkin’ Now,” and more.
“This book is a goldmine for fans of Louis Johnson’s incredible bass playing,” Clayton shared. “Each transcription has been written in both standard notation and TAB and comes with a highly detailed breakdown and analysis. This includes guidance on performance techniques and tips for recreating the artist’s tone.”
In case you’re not hip to “Thunder Thumbs,” check out the music video for “Strawberry Letter 23”:
