Stuart Clayton Releases “Plectrum Funk for Bass Guitar,” A New Guide to Advanced Pick Technique

As much as it has been maligned through the years, playing with a pick is an important style to have in your arsenal – and not just for rock. Bassist and educator Stuart Clayton has just published a new book to get your chops up called Plectrum Funk for Bass Guitar.
“This book contains a series of exercises that will help you to develop the required techniques for playing complex funk bass grooves with a plectrum,” Clayton writes. “Featuring 100 exercises covering all aspects of plectrum technique, this book is the perfect follow-up to Plectrum Technique for Bass Guitar.”
Clayton, who has contributed some great lessons to No Treble, focuses on more than alternating pick patterns. The book dives into techniques including the self-generated backbeat, the application of chords and double stops, ghost notes, palm muting, raking, hammer-ons and pull-offs, and more. In learning these approaches, you can learn the styles of bassists like Anthony Jackson, Bobby Vega, Carol Kaye, Cody Wright, and more.
Plectrum Funk for Bass Guitar is available now in paperback from Amazon worldwide.
