Steve Lawson Releases “TLC”

Steve Lawson: TLCSteve Lawson’s music has always carried a certain amount of emotional weight, but his latest release may be the deepest. The solo bass master was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, and T♥L♥C was recorded amidst his chemotherapy treatments.

“There was a time when I wasn’t sure how long it would be before I could play again, or quite how low this cancer journey would go before it turned a corner,” he shares. “This is an album about life exceeding expectations, even in times that seem dark. About hope springing up in unlikely and beautiful places, and aside from that it contains the longest most shreddy, ridiculous bass solo I’ve ever recorded. So listen to it on whatever level makes sense to you.”

Lawson recorded the album in one sitting without any second takes. T♥L♥C features three epic tracks, the shortest being a 10-minute musing entitled “The Metaphysics of Unknowing.” While he is prolific in his creations, he is also meticulous about documenting them. Luckily he shot video of the second track, “It Comes In Waves,” so we can see how it all came together.

T♥L♥C is available now via Bandcamp. If you want to help Lawson even more, consider subscribing to his Bandcamp library for full access to his catalog and upcoming releases.

T♥L♥C Track List:

  1. The Metaphysics of Unknowing
  2. It Comes in Waves
  3. The Best We Can Hope For
