Danny Ziemann & Valerie Costa: The Two Lonely People

Danny Ziemann is back on the scene with a new bass and voice project with Austrian singer Valerie Costa. The duo have an album of jazz standards coming in December and are teasing it with this amazing clip of the Bill Evans and Carol Hall song “The Two Lonely People.”

“To me, the preparation for this album represents one of my greatest periods of musical growth to date,” Ziemann says. “This recording challenged me to finally develop the concepts and ideas I’ve been hearing for years. This includes crafting solo introductions, playing multiple lines of counterpoint, chords, reharmonizations — and really just finding ways to expand my supportive possibilities. It also required an immense amount of musical independence and clarity from the both of us.”

“The Two Lonely People” has one of those bass solo introductions, with Ziemann weaving incredible lines together with double and triple stops along the way to fill out the complex harmony. Costa enters with an arresting interpretation of the melody that will take your breath away.
