Dezron Douglas Releases New Album, “Atalaya”
Dezron Douglas has released a new full-length album called Atalaya. Although many know him for being the current bassist in Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio’s solo band, Douglas channels his jazz side more akin to his work with Pharaoh Sanders, Louis Hayes, and Ravi Coltrane.
His rich tone on the double bass sets the mood for each track, going from tender ballads like “Rosé” to the modern bop of “J Bird.” Electric bass fans should check out “Octopus,” on which he uses effects to replicate an underwater atmosphere. Another electric highlight is the sole vocal song, “Wheeping Birch,” featuring Melvis Santa.
Check out his video for the song “More Coffee Please”:
Atalaya is available now on CD, vinyl and as a digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
