Nick Campbell Destroys’ “Art” Marks Bassist’s Debut Solo Album

Nick Campbell Destroys: ArtNick Campbell has been turning heads over the past few years for his work with groups like Scary Pockets and Pomplamoose. Now he’s released Art, which marks his debut album with his solo project Nick Campbell Destroys. In an interview with Nick Wells of Bass Player, the bassist calls the 10-song collection a “synthesis of all the modern jazz, soul, and rock music that I love. It kind of goes into Zappa territory sometimes and at other times sounds like nihilist funk music.”

Campbell wrote or co-wrote all of the songs and covered bass, guitar, synth, sampling, and more on the album. He also tapped some top talent to fill out his compositions: Lettuce’s Nigel Hall, Julian “J3PO” Pollack, and Vulfpeck collaborators Theo Katzman and Antwaun Stanley, to name a few.

Check out the fun and funky “Sunday” featuring Katzman on guitar and vocals:

If you follow Campbell, you know he’s serious about the music, if not the lyrical content. Get another taste of the album with “Drinking Gin At Arby’s”:
