Jason Newsted Teases New Metal Project

Jason Newsted on Gator Garage

Jason Newsted is getting back into heavy music, the former Metallica bassist has revealed. In a recent interview for Gator 98.7 FM’s Gator Garage, Newsted was asked about his current musical projects and shared the news.

“Actually, I spent six months of last year putting together THE CHOPHOUSE BAND ‘Volume 1′. THE CHOPHOUSE BAND has been together [and] making music since 1992. So it was our first album after 30 years. I spent a lot of time on that. And then, once I got that under my belt, I’m kind of stepping back into the heavy now,” he said [as transcribed by Blabbermouth]. “So the last couple of weeks I’ve been auditioning guitar players for a heavy project. I’m back on bass and singing with a metal drummer — double bass, you know; getting’ loud again. So I’ve got a couple of irons in the fire. I’m putting two new projects together right now — but loud.”

The bassist’s heavy metal solo project, Newsted, ran from 2012 to 2014, but since then he’s focused on The Chophouse Band. He originally played acoustic guitar in the band though he clarified in the interview that he had now switched to Les Pauls and SGs. “Some of it’s a little quieter but most of it’s not,” he adds.

While we don’t have more details on his new metal project, Newsted says The Chophouse Band will be recording its debut album. You can hear the whole interview below.
