Jimmy Johnson to Join James Taylor for Summer Tour
Legendary singer/songwriter James Taylor has announced he’ll hit the road this summer for a North American tour with his All-Star Band. The trek will begin on May 25th in Woodinville, Washington, and snake down to California before picking up again in June, where they will focus on the South and Northeast.
Taylor announced the 2023 All-Stars lineup and it’s a set of fantastic musicians. He’ll be joined by Kate Markowitz (vocals), Dorian Holley (vocals), Henry Taylor (vocals), Andrea Zonn (vocals/fiddle), Larry Goldings (piano), Michael Landau (guitar), Luis Conte (percussion), Michito Sanchez (percussion), drummer Steve Gadd, and bassist Jimmy Johnson.
Johnson, who is also noted for his work with jazz guitar innovator Allan Holdsworth, has been a mainstay of Taylor’s band for years after first working with him in 1990. He’s also featured on nine of the songwriter’s albums.
“The great vibe of this band and crew is a reflection of our boss – it comes from the top down,” Johnson says of the group. “It’s a pleasure to work with such a talented group of people sharing the goal of making good music for all to enjoy.”
During the lockdown in 2020, Johnson made a video introducing fans to his bass guitar. Check it out, and see if you can figure out the answer to his bass quiz:
