Bass of the Week: Carillion Guitars Callisto

Carillion Guitars recently introduced a new model called the Callisto, which grew from a collaboration with bassist Arran McSporran. Luthier Chris Delia gave a rundown of the instrument’s creation on the Carillion Facebook page.
“Arran needed a slightly more traditionally styled bass for work outside of his tech-death band commitments, and his remit was something along the lines of ‘between a P and J bass in shape and style,’ but obviously done the Carillion way,” he wrote. “Bizarrely, I had wanted to design the exact same thing for a few years, but needed someone to commission it to justify the time on R&D. The stars aligned (pun definitely intended) on the whole thing for the both of us!”
The bass features set-neck construction and is crafted with a swamp ash body and a nine-piece flamed maple and bog oak neck. It has a Birdseye maple fingerboard that’s bound in ebony and inlaid with ebony blocks for its fret markers.
Other features include Bartolini pickups, Gotoh tuners, an ABM bridge system, and Luminlay side dots.
