Julia Hofer is back with another “Best of Bass Lines” video, and this time around, she’s focusing on the bass line to The Jacksons’ version of “Julia Hofer: Blame It On The Boogie.”

Julia includes the notation and tabs to follow along.

I’m liking your groove and the tone, while still getting the punch on the slap fills. First time I’m seeing those pick-ups and their configuration in relation to the bridge and neck. They don’t look like the pole pick-ups I’m used to seeing.

    Dear Ms. Hofer,

You are an inspiration! I realize that there are many great musicians out there now, but I have to believe you are one of the best bass players around. I have taken up the bass in my old age, but having very short fingers, a bit of arthritis, and no musical talent, it is a struggle, but I have ALWAYS wanted to drop the guitar and play bass. I marvel at the fact that pretty much every piano, guitar, and bass player has those amazing fingers. My silly theory is that you get those fingers along with the “musician gene” since most all professional players have them.

I wanted to suggest two more songs when you decide to do another video of songs you like. Not sure if these would fit into your personal list, but they are on mine for their bass parts:

    1. Queen: Crazy Little Think Called Love
    2 Stones: Miss You

I am a fan of James Jamerson and all the music that came out of Chess and MOTOWN back then as well, so anything from Smokey or Marvin or any of them you happen to like would make great choices to me.

    Cheers!
