Cannibal Corpse Returns with “Chaos Horrific”
2023 marks 35 years since the formation of death metal pioneers Cannibal Corpse, but they’re not resting on their laurels. The band has just released their sixteenth studio album, Chaos Horrific, and they’re hitting the road to share it with fans.
The album was once again produced by guitarist Erik Rutan, who became an official full-time member of the group in 2021. Speaking on the band’s three-and-half decade run, he said “I think it’s such an amazing feat. It speaks to the work ethic and dedication that everyone has put into CANNIBAL CORPSE. When you think about how many bands never make it a decade, let alone three plus, it is such a testament to the creativity aspect and determination and loyalty toward what we do.”
Though there have been some lineup changes through the years, Cannibal Corpse has always been anchored by bass great Alex Webster. The bassist says Chaos Horrific feels like a continuation of 2021’s Violence Unimagined, although some have called it more technical.
“I don’t think there was any conscious effort to make things more technical,” Webster says, “so if it wound up that way, it would just be a natural result of us trying to write the heaviest songs we could.”
Fans of Webster’s classic “Hammer Smashed Face” bass line will be in for a treat from the very top of the new album. The first track, “Overlords of Violence,” commences with a raging bass line.
Chaos Horrific is out now on CD, vinyl and as a digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
