In Memoriam: John Diggins
One of the world’s most renowned bass luthiers has passed away. Jaydee Custom Guitars announced the news that founder John Diggins died on January 2nd.
“It is with deep regret that we have to let you know of the sad passing away of Jay Dee (John Diggins). He died suddenly but peacefully in hospital on the morning of Tuesday 2nd January, following complications in battling a long term illness,” they shared on Facebook. “He will be dearly missed by all who knew him, especially his wife Helen, sons Michael and Andrew and grandsons Jake and Toby.”
Diggins founded Jaydee in 1977 after getting his start by working for John Birch. What started as a repair and customization business quickly turned into an instrument-building operation. By April of 1978, he had built guitars for Tony Iommi, Noddy Holder, and Geezer Butler. Other notable Jaydee users include Mark King of Level 42, Angus Young of AC/DC, and Roy Orbison.
Jaydee has operated for 47 years. Diggins was joined in the shop by his two sons, Michael and Andrew, as well as his grandson Toby.

So sad just seen it got two one with a nine way pickup switch and one with my daughters on it
So sad i found out just now he made me one with my daughters name on Eva Tara on the body off the guitar a mark king bass I’ve one also that has two picups and a nine way switch on the it so different rest at pice John sad news and my thoughts too you’re family mark alfred kidger god bless you all
