Epiphone Unveils the Rex Brown Signature Thunderbird Bass

Epiphone Rex Brown Signature Thunderbird Bass

In 2022, amid the news of Pantera reforming to tour, Gibson unveiled a Rex Brown signature Thunderbird Bass. The signature model has now been added to the more budget-minded Epiphone brand.

“Sometimes, it’s not about the price, but the quality, and Epiphone has some of the coolest bass designs ever made, IMO,” the Pantera and former Down bassist explains. “I’ve had Thunderbird’s as long as I can remember! There is nothing cooler looking than a TBird… All my favorite bass players growing up have played them!! I worked really hard with the Epiphone guys, to design something that has never been done before! The pick-ups were made by Richard Aker, who has been with Gibson for 40+ years. We put the same thumpers that were in the ‘76 Anniversary T-Birds, passive & deadly!”

The Epiphone Rex Brown is crafted with neck-through construction including a nine-piece mahogany and walnut neck, mahogany body wings, and an Indian Laurel fingerboard. Other features include ProBucker 760 Bass pickups, a Volume/Volume/Tone control configuration, and a Babicz FCH 3-point bridge. The bass comes in an ebony gloss finish with gold accents on the hardware and pickguard.

The Epiphone Rex Brown Signature Thunderbird is available for $1,299.
