AC/DC Announces European Tour with New Bassist
Rumors began swirling on the internet last week about Australia’s most famous rock band, and it turns out they were right. AC/DC has announced the Power Up European tour, but Cliff Williams will not be on the bill. The group shared the news on their website.
“We are thrilled to finally announce the ‘POWER UP’ European Tour. Angus, Brian, Stevie, and Matt will be joined by Chris Chaney to carry the torch for Cliff,” they wrote. “The tour will see us play shows across Germany, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, England, Slovakia, Belgium, France & Ireland this Summer. We can’t wait to see you all out there.”
Chaney is a great choice for the group. Best known for playing bass for Jane’s Addiction, he’s also played for Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders, Alanis Morisette, Joe Satriani, Joe Cocker, Meat Loaf, and more.
Williams, who joined the band in 1977, announced his retirement in 2016 but returned to record Power Up in 2020. Though he appeared with the band at the Power Trip Festival in October 2023, it seems his touring days are done.
