Dingwall Introduces John Taylor Signature Bass

Dingwall unveiled a limited edition Rio Dream Bass with Duran Duran’s John Taylor last year and now they’re expanding on it with a production model. The new John Taylor Signature bass follows in the footsteps of the Rio Dream with similar specs, but the company will be offering unlimited access to it as a regular model.

The bass is crafted with a lightweight Nyatoh body, a bolt-on maple neck, and a Pau Ferro multi-scale fingerboard. The “Rio Eye” is inlaid at the 12th fret. Dingwall updated the bass from its predecessor with a new range of colors: Metallic Black, Primrose, Cranberry and Seafoam Green. The headstock also has a Rio-inspired graphic to complement its body stripes.

Taylor’s signature bass is fitted with three neodymium pickups and a special preamp designed with Rupert Neve Designs. “Duran’s breakthrough single, the title track from 1982’s Rio, was originally recorded on a Neve console, so the history was already there,” says Sheldon. “But the team at Rupert Neve Designs absolutely nailed the tone.”

The new Dingwall Guitars John Taylor Signature bass will be available soon with prices of $2,745 for the four-string and $2,805 for the five-string.
