Two Bass Monsters Collide on Toby Peterson Stewart and Jacob Umansky’s “Probably Fine”

Two bassists and two Dingwalls. You should be all over this one.

Toby Peterson Stewart and Jacob Umansky have teamed up for a new tune called “Probably Fine,” which arrived on October 13th. Toby is best known as one half of the bass team in The Omnific, the Melbourne instrumental trio that features two basses and drums. That experience has given him plenty of practice finding ways for two basses to coexist without getting in each other’s way.

Umansky is best known for his work with Intervals, where his combination of picking, slap, and other modern techniques has become a big part of the band’s sound.

For “Probably Fine,” Peterson Stewart handles a five string Dingwall while Umansky goes with six strings. Toby has long been associated with the Dingwall NG3, praising its clarity across the fretboard, while Jacob now has his own Dingwall Sol Signature model. The Sol is based on his Custom Shop Z3 and is offered in five and six string versions with three Dingwall FDV pickups and a Darkglass Tone Capsule.

Of course, the gear is only part of the story. These guys cover a lot of ground here, trading riffs, grooves, and lead lines while making two basses sound like the most natural combination in the world.
