Blues Bass Lines: “She Caught The Katy” by Taj Mahal

This lesson adds a new song to your blues repertoire, but don’t worry, it’s not another 12-bar. “She Caught The Katy” by Taj Mahal is simply a great tune with a funky bass line. We’ll dig into the chord progression, work through the different sections of the song, and get you playing in no time.

While this version is quite different from The Blues Brothers recording, it’s a great way to get familiar with the musical foundation and can absolutely be helpful if you decide to tackle Duck Dunn’s part.

1968 was such a big year! I started playing bass, graduated eighth grade, got my 65P as my grad present and immediately started discovering all these great players – Taj Mahal, Ry Cooder, and of course, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Paul Butterfield, Muddy Waters, blah blah blah… this is such a great song and it is just so cool that Ryan picks it up and does a wonderful job with it! Thank you and FWIW, still playing, still digging this… ?
