Bass of the Week: Ibanez SRD905F
Gerald Veasley’s Bass BootCamp just wrapped up a weekend of incredible bass clinics, masterclasses, and performances. No Treble’s Corey and Isaac were on the scene to cover the show and the Philadelphia Bass Gear Expo, where Corey fell in love with a fretless Ibanez.
The Ibanez SRD905F is a fretless five-string featuring a semi-hollow okoume body and an exotic maple top with three oval sound holes. Its five-piece maple neck is fitted with a bound Panga Panga fingerboard with Abalone oval inlays to match the sound holes. The fingerboard is also extended all the way to the neck pickup to offer the equivalent of 30 frets.
Ibanez loads the bass with a pair of Nordstrand Big Breaks as well as a piezo system in its AeroSilk MR5 bridge and a 2-band EQ with piezo active control.
Here’s a sweet demo video by bassist Shin Sakaino:

Actually, that video is a TERRIBLE demonstration of the sound of the bass. It’s buried in effects to the point where the original tone of the bass is moot. Never seen a bass I wanted to try so badly that had so many awful demo videos (there are about a dozen out there).
My thoughts exactly.
Wait – I just found a video that’s better (even if it is an ad for AMS): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfkNgef_BPc
