Pachyderm Instruments Launches the Whamola

Pachyderm Instruments Whamola

Well, that was fast. After teasing the instrument back in June, Les Claypool and Pachyderm Instruments unleashed a production version of the Whamola on September 19th. They promptly sold out within the day, but a new batch will be on the way.

The one-stringed instrument is built with aluminum and wood with a handle for adjusting the pitch of the string. Its height can be adjusted between 4’3″ and 4’10” for playing comfort. A P-bass pickup is situated on its body to let you plug in.

If you’re wondering “What the heck is a Whamola?,” just check out this clip of Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade performing a song named after the instrument.

The Pachyderm Instruments Whamola sells for $649.99. Although the first run is sold out, you can sign up on their website to be notified when more are in stock.

That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. Just cos Les plays it doesn’t make it cool…

normally I’d be behind this 1,000%, but that’s way, way too expensive. I could make one of these for around $100 + stuff I have laying around the house.
