George Porter, Jr. Announces New Album, “Porter’s Pocket”

George Porter, Jr. has a feel like no other and is about to prove it again with a new album. Porter’s Pocket will be an instrumental album with his group Runnin’ Pardners featuring keyboardist Michael Lemmler, drummer Terence Houston, and guitarist Chris Adkins.

Due on February 7th, the album promises to “scratch the old-school Meters itch,” as evidenced by the first single, “Tito’s Dumpling Machine.” The bassist leans into the groove and lets his bandmates dig in. His groove locks in deep with Houston, who kicks the song off with an old-school Uptown New Orleans drum beat.

“My attitude has always been that the drummer defines where the song goes and so I really enjoy letting a drummer set up the tune,” Porter says.

Porter Jr. & Runnin’ Pardners have a weekly gig at the Maple Leaf Bar in New Orleans and will play shows around the U.S. throughout the year.

“Tito’s Dumpling Machine” is streaming now on Apple Music, Spotify, and more. Porter’s Pocket will be out on February 7th, 2025. Members of the subscription service Color Red Vinyl Club will receive early access to it as part of their December 2024 vinyl selection.
