“I Woke Up to a DM”: How Nicole Fiorentino Joined Garbage’s Comeback Tour

Earlier this year, Garbage announced that Nicole Fiorentino had joined their ranks as a touring member. The bassist, known for her time in Veruca Salt and Smashing Pumpkins, has already been on the road with the band in South America. Now, she will join them for a 31-city tour across North America in the fall to support their upcoming studio album, Let All That We Imagine Be Light.
The “Happy Endings” tour marks their first headline tour in the U.S. in a decade. It will kick off September 3rd in Orlando, Florida and cross the entire country until it wraps up on November 2nd in Phoenix, Arizona.
In a recent interview with Bass Player, Fiorentino explained how she was hired.
“One Saturday morning early this year, I woke up to a DM on my Instagram from Shirley [Mason] asking if I’d be interested in the gig. We had never met, so I was pretty surprised,” she said. “In addition, I had gotten an email from Butch Vig. I thought it was really cool that they both reached out to me personally and didn’t go through management or anything. I got back to them really quickly and said, ‘Absolutely. I’d be honored.’”
Let All That We Imagine Be Light will be released on May 30th.
