CME’s ‘Plugged In’ Bass Edition: The Bass Nerds Explore Rare, Boutique, and Bizarre Basses

Hey everyone, Jody Miller here. In this special bass-focused episode of Chicago Music Exchange’s “Plugged In” series, Marc Najjar and I, The Bass Nerds, spent the day checking out some of the most eye-catching, unique, and downright fun basses CME had on the floor.

We pulled together a lineup featuring Fenders, Sandbergs, Rickenbackers, Kauer builds, and more. Every bass you hear in the episode is running through a vintage Ampeg B-18 and a Bergantino HP2X and Reference cab so you’re getting the real sound of these instruments with some seriously classic and modern power behind them.

As The Bass Nerds, we love getting our hands on anything that stands out, so you’ll see us reacting in real time to everything from stunning finishes to unexpected design choices. It’s not about selling anything. It’s about giving you honest takes on how these basses feel, how they sound, and what makes them special.

You’ll see us nerd out over pickups, debate playability, and just have a good time exploring the variety the bass world has to offer. If you’re into discovering new gear, hearing real talk from fellow bass players, or just want to hang with The Bass Nerds for a bit, this episode is for you. Check it out and let us know which bass you’d want to try first.
