Bassists have a new pickup option as DiMarzio has launched the Colossal pickup for five-string bass. The company describes the aptly named models as having “more of everything.”

“Play them softly and they deliver an unmatched airiness to the notes; play them aggressively and they will blow your hair back,” they write. “These passive pickups are designed to effortlessly respond to soft touch, slap, or aggressive pick attack with ease.”

The Colossal pickups are a fully humbucking design with complete shielding. The metal covers have rounded edges for comfort and an arch on the top contour, which brings the coils closer to the middle strings. This, DiMarzio states, improves string balance and overall dynamic range. They add that the pickups have a richly detailed mid-range, making them work well with dropped tuning.

DiMarzio’s Colossal Bass Pickups are available now at $150 per pickup and $300 for the pair.
