DiMarzio Collaborates with Billy Sheehan for Relentless Pickups
DiMarzio has unveiled a new P-style pickup that was designed with bass legend Billy Sheehan. The Relentless bass pickups feature sculpted metal covers for added form and function, the company says.
“Although Billy Sheehan has always loved the sound of DiMarzio bass pickups, his playing style inspired him to modify the exteriors. Billy used to build them up with epoxy to round off the sharp edges,” they write. “Designed with Billy, we removed all the right-angled edges from a standard P Bass pair, curved the tops to match the fingerboard/string radius, and changed the mounting to a robust 1/8” circuit board that eliminates protruding mounting screws.”
The resulting pickup produces 50 percent more output than traditional passive pickups with extremely low electromagnetic interference. DiMarzio also says their broad magnetic field allows for bending notes without volume drop out.
The DiMarzio Relentless pickup is available in three finishes: nickel, gold, and black metal. They’re out now with a starting price of $119.99.
