Thundercat & Remi Wolf Bring Funk and Fusion to Colbert with “Children of the Baked Potato”

Thundercat brought his signature mix of funk and chaos to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week, performing “Children of the Baked Potato” with Remi Wolf. It was one of those performances that just felt alive. The groove was deep, the vibe was loose, and Thundercat’s bass tone was pure gold.

He was running his Ibanez six string through an Aguilar rig and it sounded massive on the broadcast. Every note had that buttery midrange and round low end that makes his playing so unmistakable. Remi Wolf’s vocals fit right in, adding color and energy to the mix.

The song itself tips its hat to The Baked Potato, the iconic Los Angeles jazz club that has hosted countless fusion greats. Thundercat brought that spirit to late night TV and made it his own. If you missed it, this one’s worth a replay. Thundercat once again proves the bass can be the heartbeat and the storyteller all at once.
