Joe Dart Joins The Olllam for Their First U.S. Tour

Joe Dart has reframed the bass guitar for the modern age in his work with Vulfpeck, but he’s also the bassist for The Fearless Flyers, Theo Katzmann, and The Olllam. All of those bands have taken him from coast to coast in the United States except for The Olllam, but that’s about to change.

The band, based out of Ireland, is embarking on its first-ever U.S. tour this month with Dart in tow. They’re kicking things off on November 2nd in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and will be working their way to the West Coast over two weeks. Their final date is slated for November 15th in Los Angeles, California.

“What’s unique about The Olllam versus Vulpeck or The Fearless Flyers is the instrumentation,” Dart explains in an Instagram post. “It has many of the groove elements of those two bands, but the lead instrument being an Irish pipe and whistle adds a really cool timbre to it. It’s very trancey music. The groove is throughout. The melodies kind of circle your head in this way. It’s sonically rich and interweaves beautifully.”

You can hear those rich textures in this clip of The Olllam feartuing Anthony Boyle performing “The Burialll Stone.”

Of course, the band takes full advantage of having Dart as a member and give him some time to shine. Check out this bass solo from a concert in Belfast:

Dart also points out that the tour will focus on smaller venues than Vulfpeck plays, making this an amazing chance to see Dart in action, up close and personal.
