Stanley Clarke Reveals Details for New Album “Last Train to Sanity”

Earlier this year, Stanley Clarke was featured in a documentary titled Stanley Clarke: Forever, which dove into his career and the making of a new album. The bass legend has now revealed more details about the project, which will ship in February.

Last Train to Sanity will feature 15 songs, available in a 2-LP set with a matching CD. It will also include a book with liner notes on the music, but there will be another important book in the package.

“It has a book called Notes From The Journey, which is a book that goes from eight years old up until today,” Clarke says. “It has as much stuff as we could fit in there. It’s really nice. I think you guys are going to like it.”

Last Train to Sanity will be available in February with pre-orders starting in January. While we don’t have a full song list, details of the record were shared when the documentary was released.

Last Train to Sanity features brand-new material and fresh takes of beloved jazz-fusion classics,” a press release stated. “The 4EVER band includes drummer Jeremiah Collier, Colin Cook on guitar, Emilio Modeste on tenor sax and clarinet and Jahari Stampley on piano and keyboard. Special guest appearances throughout include a thrilling bass duet with Cameroonian bassist, Armand Sabal-Lecco, a beautiful reimagining of Clarke’s piece “Tradition” with Ruslan Sirota on piano and a duet between Stanley and Salar Nader, one of the most sought-after young tabla players.”

We’ll share more details as they become available. Until then, revisit Clarke’s astounding appearance on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert.
