Harley Benton to Close U.S. Reverb Store, Ending Direct U.S. Distribution

Harley Benton Logo
Harley Benton, the budget-minded brand from German retailer Thomann, has announced it will close its U.S. Reverb Store and thus its U.S. distribution. The company shared the news that it will officially close on January 31st.

This wasn’t an easy decision, and we’re truly grateful for the enthusiasm and support you’ve shown to our brand. Changes in economic conditions over the past year have made it increasingly difficult for us to continue operating in the U.S.,” they shared on Facebook. “From February 1st on, there will be no more products available in our U.S. Reverb Store, but our team will of course remain available for warranty, repairs, and customer support.”

Until then, Harley Benton is discounting all of the gear in its U.S. warehouse, including several basses: the MSB-5, PB-20, JB-20, and JB-62CC. The models range from $164 to $409.

The move marks a significant shift for one of the most visible budget brands in the bass and guitar market, particularly among players who relied on its U.S. Reverb Store for fast shipping and lower overall costs.

“Thank you to our U.S. community for the trust, passion, and love – you’ll still be able to order Harley Benton instruments anytime via harleybenton.com, shipped from Germany through Thomann.” In a separate comment, they stated you can still get the basses, but “you just have to expect tariffs.”

I guess we know who to thank for this.
It’s too bad, I have heard some really good things about their instruments.

  2. BobbyD

    Thanks, Trump.

    • BrokeDownDan

😆, no its time other countries paid us back…..but remember orange man bad.

      • Dave Bowman

Paid us back for what? Trump’s claim that the rest of the world was “ripping us off” with enormous tariffs is not true. Here are just a few examples of Trump’s bogus claims:
        1) Trump claimed the EU was charging an average 39% tariff on U.S. goods. The EU’s trade-weighted average tariff rate was actually 2.7% and the U.S. average tariff on EU goods was 2.5% (before Trump’s latest tariffs).
        2) We actually have a trade surplus with the UK.
        3) The only reason we have a trade deficit with Canada is because of all the heavy crude oil we import from Canada and refine here in the states for great profit. It benefits us. If you look at all other non-oil products we actually have a trade surplus with Canada.

      Cry…

  3. Fantastic news! I’m absolutely, without a doubt certain that this will bring back G&L, and Peavey will once again start production on a $400 bass in Mississippi, and some young bright entrepreneur will leverage cheap industrial space in Detroit to make affordable instruments. Absolutely certain this will happen.

    • Ben Rosow

Well said. Think of the shear number of product categories that have NEVER been made in the US, that we don’t possess the technology to design and build.

  4. JamesM

No major loss. Everytime I see their gear it just reeks of low quality junk.

  5. Jay Ewan

That’s sad news. Im still looking for Firebird style guitar.

  6. Dave Bowman

Thank you, President Trump! Who needs the efficiencies of a global economy? Protectionism is where it’s at, baby! lol

    • Lester Young

You just want access to cheap instruments made by slave labor. Got it

      • Dave Bowman

They’re not made with slave labor. Plenty of U.S. companies sell cheap products made overseas. If you ever bought a Fender that wasn’t a top of the line custom shop or one of their American Professional, etc. lines you bought a Fender made in China or somewhere else.

Trump’s Terrible Tariffs at it again!

    • Anthony S Corrado

Awwwww you dont care that we get screwed BY other countries taxing us (go do the research we been getting ripped off by them for yrs) as long as you save $29
      On a piece of crap.
      Only uninformed Ppl blame Trump.
Guess what try Firefly WAY BETTER PRODUCT and reasonable…

      • Michael Scot Draper

Actually firefly is out of buisness, for a while now. He just want to scream “Trump bad!!” Must want his ten minutes of fame…..thats “Good” with me…..:)

      • Dave Bowman

I’ve done the research. Sure, there are specific instances like China not enforcing copyright laws. But most of what Trump says about other countries ripping us off is just false. I posted this earlier but here it is again:
        Examples:
        1) Trump claimed the EU was charging an average 39% tariff on U.S. goods. The EU’s trade-weighted average tariff rate was actually 2.7% and the U.S. average tariff on EU goods was 2.5% (before Trump’s latest tariffs).
        2) We actually have a trade surplus with the UK.
        3) The only reason we have a trade deficit with Canada is because of all the heavy crude oil we import from Canada and refine here in the states for great profit. It benefits us. If you look at all other non-oil products we actually have a trade surplus with Canada.
        4) The 250% tariff Trump claimed Canada put on U.S. dairy has never been applied. Canadians paid 0% tariff on U.S. dairy. And any tariffs we were paying on each other’s goods were negotiated by Trump in his USMCA treaty.
        5) Japan has no tariff and no import quota on U.S. cars. We simply don’t make cars they want.
        6) A trade deficit with a country is not necessarily a bad thing. It’s only bad if you assume we should be exporting exactly the same amount as we import from each country which is nuts, the world doesn’t work that way.

      Enjoy yoir freedom to complain

  8. Richard Rybinski

So now a kid has to pay $1500 for a guitar that he could have got a similar one of $300 from HB.
    Winning!

    • Bibi Altona

Let me answer on behalf of your president: Your kid doesn‘t need 30 guitars. Two will do.

  9. Douglas Folsom

    I love my Harley Benton!

I’m very sorry to hear this. I will forever champion the Harley Benton!

I’m a very blessed 2008 Grammy nominee. Would play my Harley Benton anytime and anyplace!

  10. MAGA RULES

Harley Who? Is this some fake motorcycle scam? Good riddance!

    • Frank Digilio

Didn’t know trolls made their way to HB, but with Donvict Trumpsteins computer farms everywhere im not surprised.

  11. Michael Scot Draper

Its amazeing that there are people who will blame Trump, yet they have no problem paying less for gas and other products reducing in cost!! I bought a Harley-Benton tele two years ago…DAMN GREAT guitar, one of the top ones out of the 40 i have!! They made a decision, God Bless them, you can still buy from them, no harm no foul. There are other brands if you want “cheaper” end music equipement…but HB also has upper end gear, that costs more,… save a lil longer and get upper teir gear, and the tariffs won’t be a factor!! Jackson’s prices have risen, so has Fender.cause most of them are made in China and Mexico respectively….but oh….your whining about low cost stuff so you wouldnt know about that. I respect HB and thank them for the quality guitar I purchased, and I paid more for it, thusly I dont care, but to here the ones crying like purple haired women…grow a pair, buck up or shut up!! Good lord….blame Biden, the inflation Trump fights was made by him….but no body told you to hate him!!!

    • Matthew Kitchens

Amen my brother . Just look at the u.k… that shit wont happen here not ever . I was pleased to read your comment. Have a great day my friend .Rock on!!!!!

  12. Benji M

Everyone of y’all pointing the finger and the opposite party is a brainwashed fool. You think either side gives a fuck about the common man? It’s political theatre and the kicker is that they barely even trying to hide it now. What a joke.. if you honestly still think it’s solely the republicans or the democrats fault and they’re out ruin your way of life unplug your fucking tv.. better yet blow that shit up. This whole facade only keeps working because your to busy hating you’re neighbor ans not the corrupt corporate satan dick slurping elite puppet masters that would rather you be dead except they need you to work most of life away for nothing. Wake the fuck up.

  13. Frank Digilio

I’ve been very pleased with your quality and prices, hopefully once Donvict is in prison or passed we will open doors again, just put down my beautiful red double neck 10 minutes ago. Thank you for everything, Sincerely Frank Digilio

  14. Matthew Kitchens

Love the brand but the terrifs are so worth it ,until we kick and keep the crap out of the u.s.a. otherwise our country would look all invaded and occupied just like Germany. We wont let that happen here .

  15. Dennis W LIGHTHART

Really good news, American guitars are still my go too guitars. Buy American and you will sound better. 👍
