A New Chapter for Rush Begins With a Old Song: “Finding My Way” Live

When RUSH opened the Juno Awards, it marked more than a return. It was the start of a new chapter.

This was the band’s first live appearance in years and their first since the loss of Neil Peart. Stepping in on drums, Anika Nilles joins Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, bringing a fresh feel to a band with a deep history and instead of looking forward, they went straight to the beginning.

“Finding My Way,” the opening track from their 1974 debut, lands as both a throwback and a statement.   Geddy Lee holds it down with his Fender Jazz and his voice sounds as good as ever.  Nilles has the difficult task of honoring Neil’s parts while still finding space to bring her own voice into the groove.  She meets that challenge head on, keeping things grounded while adding her own sense of flow.

It is the sound of where Rush started and a glimpse of whats to come.  Check out the full tour schedule HERE.

Oh man, shivers & chills, chills & shivers. That was fun! Alex riffs were drowned by audience, but otherwise solid.

It’s a bit ironic that the first song they are publicly playing with Anika is from the first album, before Neil was the drummer. :)

Best way to ease her into the majesty and craziness of Rush and their fans. They looked like they were having a ball, that’s why I want to see them again. They built their kingdom and don’t have to learn new music, now all they need to do is let their emotions and joy take over and play as they did in their garages!

Agreed… I thought it was a wise decision to not have her first appearance doing something everyone would judge…

I tried watching just to see how their drummer did, but when Geddy started singing I remembered why I wasn’t a fan.
