Corcoran Holt Holds Down “Haynes Here” with Kenny Garrett at Blue Note Tokyo

Kenny Garrett and Sounds from the Ancestors brought some serious fire to Blue Note Tokyo with their live performance of “Haynes Here.”

The Blue Note Japan captured Garrett’s band in full command with bassist Corcoran Holt driving the group on upright bass through an Aguilar rig. The tune is hard swinging jazz, giving the band plenty of room to stretch.  Holt gets his moment around the 7:20 mark, stepping forward for an extended bass solo. It is a standout moment from a performance that shows why Blue Note Tokyo remains one of the premier rooms for live jazz.
