Newly Released 1983 Thin Lizzy Video Shows Phil Lynott at Full Power on “Jailbreak”

Thin Lizzy’s official YouTube channel has released a live clip of “Jailbreak” from the band’s appearance on Sight and Sound In Concert on January 26, 1983.

Beyond the classic Lizzy energy, this one has a great bass spotting moment. Phil Lynott is playing a Roland G33 bass, a unique instrument that featured both a standard pickup and a synth pickup system. This one appears to have been modified slightly with a pickguard, which makes the identification a bit trickier.  It took a while to pin this one down, but the shape, control layout, and pickup configuration all point to the G33. Roland’s G33 was built as a bass guitar synthesizer controller and was paired with the GR33B bass synth system.

Lynott delivers as a frontman and bassist with the confidence and cool that defined his place in rock history.
