Wes Stephenson’s Bass Tone is Massive on Mark Lettieri Group’s “Grillman”

Mark Lettieri Group just dropped a live video for “Grillman,” and while Wes Stephenson does not get much camera time, his bass tone is impossible to miss.

Typical guitarist move, right? Lettieri gets all the camera love but Stephenson is the one filling out the tune with a smooth, fat tone that sits beautifully in the mix. He keeps driving while adding tasteful little runs here and there, never overplaying but always making his presence known.  Stephenson is playing a Bass Mods 5 string for the performance, and it sounds huge. His touch gives the tune the right mix of warmth, punch, and movement, locking in with Jason “JT” Thomas on drums.

“Grillman” originally appeared on Lettieri’s 2011 album, Knows. This live version shows how well the tune still cooks.
