Paul McCartney Becomes a “Session Man” for The Rolling Stones on “Covered in You”

The Rolling Stones have returned with Foreign Tongues, marking the legendary rock band’s twenty-fifth studio album. They once again worked with producer Andrew Watt, who recorded 2023’s Hackney Diamonds. As such, guitarist Keith Richards says Foreign Tongues maintains continuity with its predecessor.

That includes the low-end aspect. Longtime bassist Darryl Jones anchors most of the album, with Watt, Richards, and Ronnie Wood picking up the four-string on a few songs. Former Beatle Paul McCartney also appears on one track, “Covered In You.” (He appeared on “Bite My Head Off” on Hackney Diamonds.)

Macca released his own album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, with Watt in May. In an interview with Mojo, he talked about the experience of recording with the Stones and fitting into their sound.

“If you’re working with the Stones, they’ve got the Stones sound, so I think you would be looking to get that sound. And it’s natural to them – it’s the way they sound,” he said. “I worked on a track on their new album, and it was great to do. You sit down and the noise you’re hearing, the record you’re making, it’s the Stones. After the day at the studio, people said, ‘How was it?’ It was great! I mean, I was a session man with the Stones. (Laughs) I really enjoyed that, and it sounds like a Stones record.”
