Rammstein Brings the Fire – Oliver Riedel Brings the Thunder.
I saw Rammstein at Rockstock in Tinley Park just outside Chicago in 1998. I was in my early teens, seven rows back, and “Du Hast” had recently come out. I wasn’t sure what to expect.
I was completely blown away. Huge pyrotechnics. The lead singer did the entire first song on fire. Almost thirty years later, I still remember that show as one of the defining moments in my music history. So when Rammstein releases a new live video, it has my attention. This one features bassist Oliver Riedel on his Sandberg bass and that gives us another good reason to check it out.
The band’s official video for “Armee der Tristen” comes from their October 2022 shows at Foro Sol in Mexico City. With all the spectacle surrounding this band, it’s easy to get distracted. Give Riedel some of your attention when you watch this one. We are bass players, after all.
The performance previews *Rammstein: Live in Mexico City*, which arrives in cinemas November 4, with a live album following November 20.
