Alabama Shakes Bring the Soul to Fallon With Zac Cockrell on Bass

Alabama Shakes stopped by The Tonight Show on Monday night to perform “I Feel Hope Coming,” and Zac Cockrell lays down the foundation for the band’s newly revived sound.

Cockrell is one of the three core members of the reunited Alabama Shakes alongside Brittany Howard and guitarist Heath Fogg.  “I Feel Hope Coming” appears on I Must Be Dreaming, which arrived back in August and marks Alabama Shakes’ first album since 2015’s Sound & Color. The song was released as a single in July.

For bass nerds, Cockrell remains an essential part of the Alabama Shakes, armed with a P Bass and Ampeg rig.   The tone is fat and massive, perfect for the soulful rock and R&B tunes that this group cranks out.
