One of the highlights of the Bass Bash event during NAMM was seeing Oskar Cartaya perform. I watched a lot of Oskar’s videos lately, and this one reminded me of those shows. Here’s The Ricannection performing “Tum Tum”.

Juna Serita is back with a new video, and this time, it features one of her own tunes. Joined by keyboardist Matt Wong and drummer Dominic Palombi, here’s the trio performing the laid back song, “No One”.

Today, we have another video from Five Watt World about the history of the Musicman bass. I love mini-docs like this. I always learn something new and it draws me closer to the instrument.

Today marks the centennial of the birth of the late jazz legend Charles Mingus. We’re celebrating today with a full concert of his sextet live in Oslo during his European tour in 1964. The band is one of his most famous lineups.

Mohini Dey joined saxophonist Mark Hartsuch and drummer Gino Banks to record Hartsuch’s tune, “Crack Drill”, and it is amazing. The interplay of the trio and the odd-time nature of the song is so cool.

We were sad to report on the news of Rick Turner’s passing. Our friend Steve Lawson had a special relationship with Turner, including getting a bass made by the luthier. Steve recorded this tribute to Turner after learning the news.

Our friend Mike Matthews sent us this video by bassist Lusi il Lupo, who is joined by drummer Gregg Bissonette and guitarists Carl Verheyen and Valter Vincenti. The band grooves hard, and Lusi throws down an amazing solo on “Brain”.

Ellen Alaverdyan joined together with Yoyoka on drums, Mateo Mannasmith on guitar, and Eva on vocals for a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “The Ocean”. They definitely got the led out on this one!

In 1990, Wayne Shorter, Michel Petrucciani, Gil Goldstein, Pete Levin, Stanley Clarke, and Lenny White joined forces to release “The Manhattan Project”. Here’s a great video of the band performing Shorter’s “Nefertiti”.

Today we’re sharing an amazing video of John Ferrara performing “Zeros and Ones” from his latest solo album. The song has complicated passages and implements two different polyrhythms, but ultimately it’s about breaking things down to work them out.

No Treble reader Omer Al-Katib (aka Omer Plays Bass) sent us this video, which is in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the release of “Toto IV”. In this clip, Omer plays along to “Africa” with his Dingwall Combustion 5.

I’ve really been enjoying Khruangbin’s “Texas Moon” album with Leon Bridges, so I went down the path of watching many of their videos. Here’s a great one from their performance at Austin City Limits last year.
