This McCoy Tyner band performance, shot during the mid 80’s at the Harvest Jazz Festival, features a great solo intro by bassist Avery Sharpe. Tyner follows up with an amazing solo of his own. The rest of the band includes Bobby Hutcherson, John Blake and Ronnie Burrage

Here’s bassist Baba Elefante performing the Mingus classic “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat” at the 2009 faculty concert at the National Guitar Workshop in LA. Elefante is joined by Blake Colie on drums.

Brazilian bass player Davi Motta released his first solo CD, Simples Assim, in 2009 which he is promoting with a series of youtube videos performing tunes from the CD. This one is called “Do Meu Jeito”. For more, check out Davi’s Myspace.

Kevin Johnson sent me this video of bassists Larry Graham and Stanley Clarke sharing the stage at Live Under the Sky in 1985. They’re jamming to Sly & The Family Stone’s “Higher”, playing bass, singing and get the crowd really into it.
