Ernie Ball Music Man 40th Anniversary StingRay Now Available for Pre-Order

Ernie Ball Music Man’s 40th Anniversary “Old Smoothie” StingRay Bass is now available for pre-order. Unveiled at the 2016 Winter NAMM Show, the bass is named after a prototype from 1976 that was designed by Leo Fender and gifted to Sterling Ball.

Central to its design is a 10-pole piece pickup that gives it a smoother tone. “We recently revisited the bass and were knocked out by its rich, deep, beautifully sweet tone,” CEO Sterling Ball explained. “We knew we had to make it available to today’s bass players and celebrate one of the most iconic instruments of our time.”

The bass features the original’s design setup with an alder body, maple neck, and maple fingerboard. Other classic aspects are a mute bridge with original stainless steel saddles and a rear-mounted truss rod complete with a walnut skunk stripe.

The Ernie Ball Music Man 40th Anniversary “Old Smoothie” StingRay Bass is available for pre-order now with a street price of $1,999.
